Tallinn Bike Tour
Exploring Tallinn by bike is a cool challenge
Overview
On the bike tour we are in no hurry to get anywhere. It is not a race but a moment in great company — the wind tousling your hair as you take the corners on Tallinn’s streets.
You can choose between different routes for the bike tour:
Option A
We set off along Reidi road, where the murmur of the sea and the wide view over Tallinn Bay give us the right momentum from the very start. We continue on to Kadriorg Park — admiring the flower gardens and Estonia’s most beautiful baroque palace. We make a stop in front of the Office of the President to cast a curious glance — is the president home today or not? Then we ride up to the small and modest house where Peter the Great actually lived. Riding on through the park we reach the Japanese Garden — time for a short meditative walk along the circle of life.
If there is no event on at the Song Festival Grounds, we swing through there as well; if the timing works, we go and check on Lenin and Stalin at Maarjamäe in the park of monuments, and the road then leads us to the memorial, where every family has its own story to tell. From there, Pirita already awaits. We ride across the bridge and admire the Olympic centre, recalling the moments when Tallinn stood at the centre of attention on the world’s sporting map in 1980. After that we turn our bikes back towards the city.
Option B
We begin our journey where history and the sea meet — at the Linnahall. It is a place everyone has their own memories of. From there we head along the Culture Kilometre, accompanied by crisp sea air, towards Patarei. If we are lucky, we swing through the courtyard of the old prison building — a place where more than one person’s nightmare began. We enjoy the sheer scale of the Seaplane Harbour and the stylish new life of the Noblessner port. From there the road takes us past the peace of the Kopli cemetery park towards the Arsenal centre and then on to the legendary Kopli lines. A place where you can still see a 20th-century workers’ quarter, but also real-estate development in full bloom. We explore the dignified Professors’ Village and reach the final point of our circuit at the Põhjala factory, where an old rubber factory has become a creative hub. Then it is time to ride through the Telliskivi Creative City and past the Baltic Station back to where we started.
